That’s right ladies and gents, I have picked up some Tau. I’ve always liked ’em since playing them back in 4th and regret giving them up. A good friend of mine presented me with an offer I just couldn’t refuse and I now own a good chunk of points.
So how to play Tau in 5th ed? Firewarrior heavy? Crisis Suit Spam? Kroot Walls? All viable builds but I prefer using my favourite model of the range – the devilfish.

What we have here is 7 AV12/13 vehicles with a permanent 4+ cover save – essentially a bitch to stop. They can fire as if fast meaning firing everything as you come to them (7 str 5 shots at BS4) and then kite you 12″ each turn firing 1 gun(4 str 5 shots). Hammerheads have 12″ in which to grab great vectors or move 6″ and pump out another 4 str 5 shots at a different target. Once tanks are dealt with they’re free to start templating infantry. The 3 suits are suicide suits to hit stuff out of LoS or getting cover saves – relying on the pathfinders devilfish to guide them in. All in all a very tight ship.
As we progress up to 2000 points you’ll see another crisis suit in both the elite and HQ slots, another warfish with firewarriors and 2 piranhas for some mid field engagement/lane blocking.
